We are proud to share that our upcoming event was featured on Curaçao.nu, one of the island’s leading news platforms.
It’s a beautiful moment for us at The Unlock Experience Foundation to be recognized alongside Stichting Kiminá and ST/Art Foundation as part of a powerful collaboration to reconnect with heritage through culture, creativity, and community.

WILLEMSTAD – On Monday, July 1, Emancipation Day in the Kingdom, the rhythm of Afro-Curaçaoan culture will echo through the historic Patio of Fort Amsterdam during the celebration Kiminá: e Kòi Tambú – Unlock the Beat of Your Roots.
The free evening event, from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM, invites the entire community to reconnect with their roots through music, dance, storytelling, and other forms of artistic expression.
The performance is led by percussionist and composer Vernon Chatlein and offers a powerful fusion of traditional Tambú with modern sounds. It is more than a show, it is a moment of reflection, pride, and unity.
“This is not a simple performance,” says Chatlein. “It is a spiritual return to who we are. Kiminá means to move forward, and this event is all about honoring where we come from.”
The performance returns to Curaçao after having received the prestigious Gieskes-Strijbis Podiumprijs in the Netherlands in 2024. Now, for the first time, the work is being presented in the land where it was born. The project has received international acclaim, but remains deeply rooted in the Curaçaoan community.
This event is part of a broader cultural movement initiated by Stichting Kiminá, ST/Art Foundation, and The Unlock Experience Foundation. The goal is to inspire youth, families, and the wider community to ‘unlock’ their potential by embracing their heritage.
In addition to the main performance, visitors can enjoy vibrant live music and dance, an interactive inspiration wall, and a brass band.
